2025 Prospect Games action gets underway in San Diego

130 selected players saw action at San Diego State on Thursday’s opening games

San Diego, CA - The action on the field matched the anticipation of the 2nd year of Pathway Baseball's Prospect Games, hosted at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the campus of San Diego State University on Thursday. The event brings together the standout unsigned players from the past year and connects them with schools across the country, who both coach & recruit throughout the week. 

Game One 

Prospect Red tops Prospect Navy in opening matchup of the 2025 Prospect Games - 7-6 

Cardon Page led the way with a two RBI Double to start the scoring for Red.  

Red flipped the tone of the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on three hits to make take a strong 7-5 lead. 

Tristan Lewis and Christan Giacomazza closed the game out for the squad allowing only one run each.  

Game Two 

Prospect Royal bullpen shuts down Prospect Gray's offense in a dominant showing - 9-3 

Brayden Reiner, Kaleb Walter and Nolan Taylor each spent time on the mound for Royal, throwing a combined 11 strikeouts.  

Reiner led the way with five strikeouts through three innings; he was awarded with player of the game.  

Norman Montion got things going for Royal, singling to center field, and bringing in a pair of runs. Montion then scored later in the top of the first inning. His performance earned him a player of the game award. 

"We pretty much naturally came together as a team", said Montion when asked about their team chemistry. "We were immediately connected, even joking around at our team dinner when we first met." 

Game Three 

Prospect Black hangs on despite late rally from Pathway Royal - 6-4 

Breck Johnson stole the show on offense and defense. Johnson hit a huge double to get the scoring going, bringing in two runs. Johnson threw two innings with three strikeouts.  

Black started on a 6-0 run due to Johnson and Zach Hall's early offense. Henry Christy and Brett Paxton also added to the attack. 

Beckham Woodward shut down the Royal comeback with a scoreless two innings. 

Despite the shaky start, Black pitched the third through the seventh inning without giving up a run, Talan Spier threw four strikeouts in two innings while Brett Paxton had one in three.  

Nicholas Richardson broke the tie in the top of the eighth, singling to left field which brought Brigzen Houser home.  

 
Game Four 

Pathway Black tops Pathway Columbia in Extra Inning, Instant Classic Showdown

 Black 8 – Columbia 7 

Prospect Columbia got things going early with help from Simon Rose, Ryan St Aubin, and Jayce Sanchez

Cooper Vais was crucial to the Black comeback with two runs brought in.  

 Despite the shaky start Black pitched the third through the seventh inning without giving up a run, Talan Spier threw four strikeouts in two innings while Brett Paxton had one in three.  

Due to a pair of errors in the sixth inning Prospect Black was able to equal the playing the score heading into the seventh at six a-piece.  

The seventh inning flew by without a run scored thanks to the pitching of Talan Speir and TJ Wheeles, leaving the teams deadlocked and into extra innings.  

Nicholas Richardson wasted no time and broke the tie in the top of the eighth, singling to left field which brought Brigzen Houser home. 

Brady Vogt added to the scoring for Columbia with a single, making the score 8-6 in Columbia's advantage.  

However, Prospect Blacks base running proved to be the difference maker, with Zach Hall scoring off an error made by the catcher to cut the lead to one. 

With a 2-2 count Colbey Larson singled to center field, bringing in Chase Ford for the game tying run.  Finally, it was Liam Delgado, who hit a double earlier in the contest who ended the game for Prospect Black, with a single center brining in Johnson to score the winning run.  

"First thing in mind was help my team out", said Delgado when asked about his mindset in the moment. "I knew we had it at that point" he later emphasized.  

Prospect Black moved to 2-0, knocking off an undefeated streak from Columbia dating back to last year's event.
