With two days of pool play in the books at the Pathway Fall Games Arizona and temperatures surpassing the 100 degree mark, we are set for Championship Sunday at Peoria Sports Complex.
Thirteen teams will enter bracket play tomorrow with the Fresno A's 16's, RA Baseball Academy - Utah, NoCo Roughnecks - Colorado and FS Baseball - Arizona all finishing pool play with 3-0 records.
The
Fresno A's flew in late Friday night having to play three games on Saturday and wasted no time with some big pitching performances from 2020 Zack Curtis and 2021 Elizar Aquirre. Curtis got the day started tossing a no-hitter against the Rogue 16's squad to set the tone for game two. Hard-throwing righty Aquirre was equally impressive in game two sitting between 81-83 mph with pinpoint control, keeping Premier West off balance all game, tossing a CG shutout. At the plate, the A's were led by the hot bat of 2021 Cameron DeMaria who had six hits and 6 RBI on the day. The A's staff allowed only 3 runs during pool play.
RA Baseball Academy out of Utah is a first year program led by Goose Kallunki and they have been the talk of the event with some top level players. The squad is made up of players that show big time athletic ability at the plate, mound and in the field. Jake Fryer and Bryan Rojas both went big fly on Saturday and Ethan Hixon has legged out three triples. Their staff allowed just 3 runs during pool play while plating 28 on the offensive side. This team is fun to watch and lines up well for a shot to play in the finale at 3:00 pm.
FS Baseball, the local boys from right here in Peoria have also been strong on the hill allowing only 5 hits through 15 innings. But, the big story here is catcher, 2019 Jose Leyva who has been one of the top hitters at the event going 9-for-10 with 3 doubles, 3 triples and 13 RBI....yes, 13!
Last but not least, the
NoCo Roughnecks from Northern Colorado have stepped up with some big time starting pitching with 2020 Trevor Ball providing the finishing touch at the tail end of the bullpen. They are a scrappy team that comes through with situational hitting and some big time power from 6'6" 2020 Jake Ticer. Ticer has hit two home runs with one of the smoothest lefty swings we have seen all summer at our Pathway events.
Bracket play opens Sunday morning 8:00 am at PSC with the Championship Game set for 3:30 pm.
