Barker

Todd Barker

Todd Barker joined Thomas Nelson as the head baseball coach in January prior to the 2020 season.

In 2020, Thomas Nelson finished 3-12 in a shortened season due to Covid. Several players made significant jumps in 2020 under Barker’s tutelage. After a late start and no fall season the team was shaping up and had just won its first series against Monroe CC (Bronx NY) the weekend before the Covid stoppage. Ryan Golub was one of the offensive team leaders batting .364, with 7 doubles, 13 RBI. On the mound the Gators were led by south paw Chase Mandic’ who was 1-0 with an ERA of 2.00.

Prior to coaching the Gators coach Barker was head coach of Warwick high school from 2003-2016 when he stepped away from his post for family reasons. The Raiders went 182-98 including routine district tournament appearances. Warwick featured many greats during Barker’s time at the helm including Peninsula district player of the year Jason Ellington as well as numerous NCAA Division 1 and 2 players Ben Delgado, Brandon Vick, Brandon Delk, Mikey Delgado, William Ward to name few. Barker was also the coach of Jahleel Sewer who is a current coach for Thomas Nelson as well as an alumni’s. Coach Barker still says that coach Sewer is one of the best pure hitters he’s ever coached.

Prior to being Varsity head coach Barker served as JV head coach in 2000-2001.

Prior to Warwick, Barker served as student assistant coach at Longwood. In 1999, Barker helped the program to a 25-21 record.

Barker was a standout pitcher for the Longwood from 1995-1999 (13-4, 3.66 ERA). Still ranked 5th in school history for career ERA. Barker also maintained a .90 walks per game average in 1998 which is still ranked on the school record books.
