McIntyre

Mitch McIntyre

Mitch McIntyre begins his first season as Iowa Western’s pitching coach. Previously, he was the pitching coach at St. Cloud State University. In his first season with the Huskies, McIntyre’s pitching staff established a new program record with a 26% strikeout rate while posting their lowest batting average against and WHIP since 2013.

McIntyre’s hurlers fired nine complete games and logged six shutouts with a pair of no-hitters including a perfect game on April 21 – just the 28th perfect game in NCAA DII history. The staff struck out 448 (26.3%) hitters across 399.2 innings of work while issuing just 131 walks (7.7%), limiting opponents to a .227/.309/.325 slash line for a .634 OPS.

McIntyre joined the Huskies in July of 2021, after spending one season as the pitching coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. In his lone campaign with the Spartans, McIntyre helped the staff lower their ERA by nearly three full runs while cutting their walk rate by over two free passes per nine.

Prior to his coaching career, McIntyre split a pair of seasons pitching professionally in the Milwaukee Brewers organization and the Frontier League. Signing with the Brewers as an undrafted free agent in 2018, the righthander made 18 appearances out of the bullpen in the AZL and worked to a 2.41 ERA across 18.2 innings of work. He struck out 23 and allowed just 16 hits while earning one win. McIntyre joined the Joliet Slammers in 2019 and made 17 appearances, covering 23.2 innings of relief while finishing off four games.

A well-traveled college starter, McIntyre made 35 appearances at the collegiate level with 26 starts, going 18-4 with a 3.55 ERA and 160 strikeouts across 142.0 frames. He fired five complete games and a pair of shutouts, holding batters to a .243 average and a sub-.670 OPS.

After beginning his career at Wichita State, McIntyre went 9-2 with a 2.83 ERA over 12 starts at Iowa Western Community College while helping lead the Reivers to an NJCAA College World Series appearance. He was named to the All-Region XI Team and the NJCAA D1 Week 14 Pitcher of the Week during his time as a Reiver. He then played two seasons at Indiana State before closing his career with a nine-win season at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Originally from Wichita, Kansas, McIntyre was a 2013 graduate of Wichita Northwest where he earned three All-League honors and led his team to three Regional Championships.
