Powell

Brad Powell

Brad Powell continues his Reiver career as he enters his 2nd season with the team in 2020-21.  Powell came to the Bluffs after serving three years as recruiting coordinator, catchers coach and working with baserunners and hitters at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska.

While at Doane, Powell’s catchers improved dramatically, dropping passed ball and stolen bases against numbers each year.  Offensively the Tigers flourished, averaging over 5.5 runs per game the last two seasons en route to breaking numerous school records, including doubles in a season for a single player and total team home runs.

In 2019, Coach Powell coached the hitters for the Quincy Gems of the Prospect League. The Gems broke the league record for homers with 106 in only 60 games. The Gems offense also lead the league in slugging, total bases and finished 2nd in doubles and 2nd in total offense.

Powell also served as the pitching coach for the Liberal BeeJays in Liberal, Kansas in the summer of 2017.  The BeeJays posted a 30-12 record and qualified for the NBC World Series as they won their first league title since 1999.  The BeeJay staff led the league in ERA and strikeouts and had their most team wins in a season since 1993.

Powell played collegiately McCook Community College and Doane. While at McCook, Brad made 28 career appearances, including 20 his sophomore year, which at the time, was the fourth-most in school history. After McCook, Brad transferred to Doane, posting the second-best earned run average on the team his junior season, ranking first on the squad in opponent's batting average against. Coach Powell also played for the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League.

A 2016 graduate of Doane, Powell has a degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in physical education and history. He is a native of Palmyra, Nebraska.
