Coach DG Nelson enters his 15th year at the helm of the highly successful SLCC Baseball program. In his tenure, Nelson has led the Bruins to a Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, two Region 18 Championships and two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Top 20 finishes.
Nelson has coached the Bruins to the best record in school history and best-ever winning percentage. With Nelson as head coach, 128 of his players have moved on to compete and study at four-year institutions, with 27 Bruins joining the professional baseball ranks--one even moving on to a Major League Baseball World Series team.
Salt Lake went 36-18 during the 2018 season, falling in the NJCAA District One championships.
Prior to joining SLCC as an assistant coach in 2000, Nelson was an assistant at Dixie State College, where he worked for current BYU coach Mike Littlewood. He also served as a hitting coach for the St. George Pioneerzz in 2002, and worked as a graduate assistant at Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1998 and 1999.
